Join Us & Collaborations

At New East, collaboration is not a formality — it’s a way of thinking, creating, and living. We build slow, attentive partnerships with individuals who share our values and seek to create meaningful change in their fields — whether it’s education, art, civic engagement, or cultural memory. We’re based in Latgale, but our community reaches far beyond borders.

Whether you’re an educator, artist, activist, researcher, student or dreamer — we offer various ways for you to join our programs, co-create with us, or begin your own journey within our space. Below you’ll find several opportunities for individual cooperation. If you represent an organization or institution — you’ll find a separate section below.

Individual Cooperation

  • If your work lies in the intersection of media literacy, civic education, human rights, democratic values or participatory pedagogy — we’d love to hear from you. We collaborate with experts, trainers, researchers and guest lecturers from Latvia and abroad to co-create high-quality, research-informed, and emotionally intelligent programs for youth, adults and professionals.

We believe in shared authorship. If you have a methodology, a topic, or a passion you’d like to bring into the educational field — let’s build something together.

Conditions: Vary by program scope and time.
Compensation: Paid or pro bono (depending on context).
    Contact: alina@neweasteurope.com

  • If you live in Daugavpils or Latgale, and want to be part of something dynamic, thoughtful, and real — we invite you to join us as a local volunteer. We often need support during exhibitions, performances, and cultural events — both on the creative and organizational side.

You’ll become part of our extended New East community: artists, students, writers, teachers, and local changemakers. A place to meet people, help shape public events, and explore your own voice.

    Conditions: 16+, based in Latgale.
    Compensation: Unpaid.

  • If you're a beginner entrepreneur from the EU or Ukraine (or a displaced Ukrainian now living in Latvia), we welcome you to experience how a civic, cultural organization is built from within. This program offers a 1–6 month immersive stay with us where you’ll observe, contribute, and co-create in the daily life of our team.

It’s a rare chance to combine grassroots practice, intercultural networking, and creative strategy — while shaping your own entrepreneurial path.

Requirements: 18+, less than 3 years of entrepreneurial experience.
Compensation: Fully funded by the Erasmus+ program.
    Contact: joren@neweasteurope.com

  • We welcome students from Latvia and beyond to join us as interns. Whether your background is in project management, communications, cultural studies, law, finance, human rights or media — we offer a hands-on, human-scale experience of how a contemporary civic society organization actually works.

You’ll be involved in real processes — from content creation to event planning, from audience research to budget development. Internships can be combined with research or artistic exploration.

Conditions: Defined based on your study program.
Compensation: Usually unpaid or partially covered.
    Contact: joren@neweasteurope.com

  • For young professionals and emerging civic leaders: this is more than just an internship — it's a curated personal learning experience. You'll work inside our organization, contribute to our projects, and (if desired) combine your work with an artistic or research residency.

We are happy to accept students under the Student Mobility for Traineeship (SMP) and Traineeships for Higher Education Students (SMP) programs within Erasmus+ KA131. For students from the US, we work with various educational centers in Latvia, and these applications are considered separately.

You will grow in your competencies, explore your voice as a changemaker, and immerse yourself in one of the most culturally layered regions of Europe.

    Requirements: 18+
    Compensation: Fully funded via stipend.
    Contact: marina@neweasteurope.com

  • Live and volunteer with us in Daugavpils — from 2 weeks to 12 months. You’ll be part of a creative collective working on cultural and educational programs with local youth and international audiences.

You’ll contribute to real things: make your own exhibition, co-host workshops, build content, organize public events, work with artists, explore your own ideas, and discover Latvia’s hidden cultural geography.

Who can join: Youth aged 18–30 from EU and partner countries.
Compensation: Fully funded (travel, insurance, accommodation, food & allowance).
    Contact: contact@neweasteurope.com

If you are an artist, you can apply for an individual grant for a residency with us as part of the Culture Moves Europe program, and we will be happy to welcome you throughout the year. You can find us in the database of host organizations on Perform Europe.

You’ll have access to exhibition halls, performance space, community, and curatorial support. Come to the hometown of Mark Rothko, Grisha Fitelberg, and Solomon Mikhoels — and create new work on the edges of Europe.
