Erasmus: Exchanges, Trainings & Study Visits
Connecting peripheries to Europe through culture, learning, and community

At New East, we see mobility as more than just travel — it’s a pathway to transformation, especially for young people and educators living in border regions, from minority backgrounds, or in socially and culturally isolated communities.
Since the start of our work, we have sent over 1000 participants across Europe and co-organized and participated in more than 100 Erasmus+ projects — from Portugal to Georgia, from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea. These have included:
Youth Exchanges (YE) fostering intercultural learning and empathy, Training Courses (TC) for youth workers, educators, and civic actors, Study Visits and Seminars offering space for knowledge-sharing across sectors.
We regularly host and co-organize projects in Latvia, bringing international participants to Daugavpils and Latgale — a region too often left on the cultural and political margins. We create meaningful, community-based programs on topics like: culture and creative expression, media literacy and journalism, civic education and youth engagement, peacebuilding and intercultural dialogue.
For many of our local participants, these programs are their first opportunity to travel abroad, engage in dialogue in English, and see themselves as part of a wider European community. This is crucial in building confidence, belonging, and agency — especially in a region where young people often feel invisible or disconnected from national and EU-level processes.
Erasmus+ mobility helps us: Empower marginalized groups — including ethnic minorities, rural youth, and Russian-speaking communities — through hands-on learning and travel. Break the isolation of border regions, opening doors to new opportunities and networks. Strengthen civil society by investing in the skills of young people, activists, and educators who go on to lead local initiatives.
We are also active participants in international study visits, and open to hosting delegations in Daugavpils to share our expertise in non-formal education, cultural programming, youth work, and community resilience.
Whether you’re a young person looking for your first exchange, a trainer seeking professional development, or a partner organization looking for collaboration — we’re here to connect and co-create.
Let mobility be a movement — toward inclusion, empathy, and shared futures.
