Empower Educators

Building a community of media literacy trainers through methods, mentorship, and shared tools

Empower Educators is a cross-disciplinary program designed for trainers, teachers, and facilitators working in the field of media and information literacy (MIL). Built on nearly a decade of hands-on experience, this initiative reflects New East’s deep and evolving expertise in developing dynamic educational tools that respond to the challenges of today’s information landscape — disinformation, manipulation, and propaganda — while promoting critical thinking, empathy, and digital resilience.

Over the years, we’ve created a vibrant ecosystem of interactive tools, lectures, games, and workshop formats tailored for a wide range of audiences — from high school students to senior citizens.

Through Empower Educators, we open up this knowledge to peers and professionals across Europe.

We regularly organize training sessions for trainers in Latvia, helping educators, librarians, NGO facilitators, and civic actors incorporate media literacy into their work in engaging, creative, and socially relevant ways.

The program has also expanded internationally: In Romania, we co-organize versions of Empower Educators for local teacher networks and media literacy advocates. In Latvia, we host a variety of educator trainings and thematic meetups throughout the year. And through Erasmus+ Job Shadowing, professionals from across Europe are welcome to visit our center in Daugavpils to experience our methodology firsthand and exchange practices with our team.

In 2024, we published a comprehensive methodological guidebook, featuring a wide range of games, interactive exercises, lesson plans, and workshop formats for different age groups and cultural contexts.
