Disinformation Challenge
Computer game for schools

The Disinformation Challenge is an innovative media literacy initiative designed to equip young people in Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia with the tools to recognize and resist manipulative narratives. At its core is the interactive computer game “Disinformation Hunt,” developed by CRI and Three Cubes with the support of Google, blending engaging gameplay with real-world critical thinking exercises.
Targeted at upper secondary school students and adaptable for classroom use, the game invites players to step into the role of digital detectives — verifying information using open-source tools, identifying red flags in media content, and navigating the complex terrain of disinformation.
The challenge is supplemented by the Resilience Guide, a hands-on publication offering concrete strategies to detect, question, and counter false narratives. Designed for both educators and students, the guide supports broader efforts to embed media literacy into curriculums, particularly in subjects like Civic Education and History.
In Latvia, the program has reached nearly 45% of all schools, either through direct implementation of the game or via the “Ambassadors” teacher training initiative, which empowers educators to guide students in developing information resilience.
By merging play, pedagogy, and digital literacy, Disinformation Challenge fosters a new generation of mindful media consumers who understand that truth, like freedom, must be defended and practiced — even on screen.
