BACKTRACK

Disinformation is one of the key challenges facing democratic life and social trust today. While many media literacy initiatives have focused on younger audiences, research shows that people aged 45+ are often among the most vulnerable to believing and sharing misleading information.

BACKTRACK is designed to respond to this gap. The project brings together partners from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and Ukraine to strengthen resilience to disinformation through culturally adapted, evidence-based approaches.

At the heart of the project is a dialogue method grounded in nostalgia: participants are invited to reflect on memories and experiences related to historical propaganda and compare them with today’s misinformation environment. This creates space for reflection, shared experience, and critical thinking without judgment or patronizing approaches.

Alongside these dialogue sessions, the project includes intergenerational exchanges with young people aged 18–30, practical digital literacy training, and capacity-building activities for practitioners such as librarians and NGO workers.
