Too Close to See
Hybrid performance, 2024 - ongoing

We adapt. We normalize the abnormal. We ignore the obvious. But what happens when lies become belief, fear hides behind silence , and boundaries begin to dissolve?
Too Close to See is a hybrid techno-performance where Janusz Głowacki’s Antigone in New York intersects the lived experiences of Latgale’s residents. Built on over 100 personal testimonies from Latgale. The performance gives voice to hidden fears, everyday denial, and the silent architecture of exclusion, domestic violence, addiction and human rights violations.
At its center are three displaced characters—exiles lost in the rhythm of a big city, caught between unrealized dreams and illusions they refuse to abandon. Their stories mirror broader societal dynamics: denial, disconnection, and the struggle to remain visible.
Directed by emerging theatre-maker Eduards Belņikovs, the piece blends live DJ improvisation, physical theatre, and multilingual text. Techno, grotesque, and irony collide in a raw exploration of denial as both a coping mechanism—and a trap.
The audience is not just witness but participant: the space invites interaction, questioning, and emotional proximity. The line between fiction and real-life testimony dissolves , challenging us to consider what it means to truly see —and what it means to look away.
