Stage Lab

Theatre as a Space for Learning and Exploration

Stage Lab is a dynamic theatre arts workshop that merges cultural education with creative experimentation. Led by a professional actor, the session introduces participants to a range of theatrical forms—from classical repertoire theatre to conceptual, postdramatic, social, and performative styles.

This is not a typical classroom. Instead, Stage Lab creates a space where students explore what theatre means today, how it’s evolving in contemporary Latvia, and how diverse approaches shape what happens on stage. Participants engage with current trends in performance, reflect on their personal experiences with theatre, and become active contributors in a collaborative creative process.

A key component of the workshop is improvisation. With guidance from the artist, students explore improvisational techniques and step into the role of the actor—experimenting with genres and theatrical languages while responding to each form’s unique stylistic codes.

By crossing the boundaries of traditional theatre, Stage Lab encourages young people to view performance as a space for dialogue, expression, and social reflection. It’s not just about acting—it’s about understanding theatre as a living, evolving art form.

This program is also available to youth across Latvia through Skolas soma funding.
