Hi!Story

Exploring the city as a space for dialogue

Hi!Story is a city-based cultural intervention that invites participants to explore local history, architecture, and identity through guided movement and spatial orientation. Designed as an alternative to traditional learning formats, it transforms the city into an interactive learning space—playful, active, and rooted in place.

As they move through the urban environment, participants search for QR codes that unlock stories about Latgale’s culture, historical events, artistic movements, and notable local figures. Each stop reveals a new layer of the region’s complex heritage—from Jewish poets to Latgalian scientists, Polish politicians, German architects, and other voices that have shaped the region.

Hi!Story was launched during the pandemic in 2020, responding to the need for safe, engaging, and meaningful outdoor experiences. Since then, it has been implemented in multiple Latvian cities and towns, involving over 1,000 participants. It continues to grow as part of the national Skolas soma program, making local culture accessible to school students through movement, curiosity, and active participation.

More than just a city game, Hi!Story helps reframe how we learn about the places we live in—not through textbooks, but through discovery. It brings history closer to the body, and culture closer to everyday life.
